9 Best AI Image Generators of 2026
By the TopToolAdvisor research desk · Updated November 6, 2026 · Next review December 21, 2026 · 9 products scored
Our pick in brief
Midjourney ranks first for the quality and range of its output, with unlimited Relax images from the $30 Standard plan, but larger companies must buy Pro for commercial rights. Adobe Firefly is the pick for brand teams that want training-data provenance and Creative Cloud workflows. OpenAI GPT Image is the easiest to edit in conversation. Ideogram is built for text-heavy ad graphics and resizing, Canva puts generated images straight into branded templates, and Recraft is the vector specialist. Google's Nano Banana and FLUX by Black Forest Labs are per-image APIs for teams with developers, and Leonardo.ai adds custom-trained styles across 80+ models.
Quick answer
Midjourney is the best AI image generator for marketing and design teams in 2026, from $10 a month, though companies grossing over $1 million a year need its $60 Pro plan; Adobe Firefly suits teams that want models trained on licensed content inside Creative Cloud; Recraft is the cheapest paid plan for commercial use at $10 a month billed annually, and Google's Nano Banana API costs about $0.034 per image.
This list is for marketing and design teams that generate images for commercial use: ads, social posts, product visuals, illustrations and campaign concepts. We compared documented features, licensing terms and published prices for 9 tools, from subscription apps to per-image APIs, and scored each on features, ease of use and value. Prices are in US dollars as shown on vendor pages on the date we checked. Adobe Firefly's plan page was blocked from our location, so its price is marked as pending. Stability AI was left out because its pricing page returned an error when we checked.

Price
Basic from $10 a month, or $96 a year ($8 a month); companies grossing over $1 million a year need Pro at $60 a month
Quoted from the Midjourney pricing page on November 6, 2026:
Monthly Price $10 $30 $60 $120
Midjourney remains the generator many art directors reach for first when the brief is mood, lighting and style rather than a literal product shot. Plans are sold as GPU time: Basic gives 3.3 fast hours a month, Standard adds unlimited images in the slower Relax mode, and Pro and Mega add Stealth Mode so work does not appear in the public gallery. Video generation is included, with HD output from Standard up. The licensing detail matters for marketing teams: Midjourney's terms let subscribers use images commercially, but a company grossing more than $1 million a year has to be on Pro or Mega, so the realistic team price is $60 a month per account, or $48 on annual billing. There is no free plan and no seat-based team plan on the comparison page, so agencies usually share or buy several subscriptions. Brand control comes from prompts and references rather than locked brand kits.
Strengths
- +You own the images you create, even after you cancel
- +Annual billing cuts every plan by 20%
- +Up to 12 concurrent fast jobs on Pro and Mega
Drawbacks
- −Businesses grossing over $1 million a year must buy Pro or Mega for commercial use
- −Images stay public unless you pay for Stealth Mode on Pro or Mega
- −No free plan

Adobe Firefly is the safest default for in-house marketing teams that need to defend where an image came from. Adobe's FAQ states its commercial Firefly model was trained on Adobe Stock images, openly licensed content and public domain material, and that outputs from non-beta features can be used commercially. Generation goes well beyond text to image: generative fill, expand, object removal, text to vector, video and audio all live in the same app, and Firefly Boards gives teams a shared canvas for mood boards. Firefly also runs partner models such as FLUX, Gemini, GPT Image, Imagen and Ideogram, which helps when one model handles text or photorealism better, though teams should check that partner outputs fit their own risk policy. Enterprise accounts add Creative Production workflows that resize, crop or swap backgrounds on many images at once. Plans run on generative credits, and we could not confirm USD prices from our location.
Strengths
- +Adobe says its Firefly models were trained on Adobe Stock, openly licensed and public domain content
- +Outputs of non-beta features can be used in commercial projects
- +Firefly for teams adds Admin Console seat controls
Drawbacks
- −Usage is metered in generative credits
- −Partner models sit beside Adobe's own models, so licensing terms differ by model
- −USD prices could not be confirmed from our location
- Commercial use
- Yes for features without the beta label
- Training data
- Adobe Stock, openly licensed and public domain content
- Partner image models
- FLUX, Gemini, GPT Image, Imagen, Ideogram, Runway
- Team controls
- Admin Console seat management in Firefly for teams
- Enterprise
- Creative Production for batch background removal, resizing and color grading

ChatGPT Free includes limited image creation; API image output costs $30 per 1M tokens, with image input at $8 per 1M tokens
Quoted from the OpenAI GPT Image pricing page on November 6, 2026:
Price Image: $8.00 / 1M tokens for inputs $2.00 / 1M tokens for cached inputs $30.00 / 1M tokens for outputs
OpenAI's GPT Image models are the most conversational way to make marketing images: you describe a visual in ChatGPT, then ask for changes such as new copy, a different background or another aspect ratio without rewriting the prompt. ChatGPT Free includes limited image creation, Plus adds more complex image creation and Pro offers unlimited, faster generation. For teams that want generation inside their own tools, the API exposes GPT-Image-2.5 Sunburst, aimed at precise edits, and Flare, aimed at fast everyday output, through both the Image API and the Responses API. Image output is billed at $30 per million tokens and batch jobs cost half, which suits large catalog or ad variant runs. The trade-offs are cost predictability, since tokens per image vary by size and quality, and the lack of brand kits or shared asset libraries in ChatGPT. ChatGPT plan prices showed only in Polish zloty from our location.
Strengths
- +Conversational editing lets you refine an image over several turns
- +Same models are reachable from ChatGPT and the API
- +Batch mode halves API cost for large jobs
Drawbacks
- −ChatGPT plan prices showed only in PLN from our location
- −Token-based API pricing is harder to forecast than a per-image rate
- −No brand kit or asset library in ChatGPT itself
- Free plan

Free plan with limited AI; Pro US$144 a year for one person ($12 a month); Business US$250 a year per person
Quoted from the Canva pricing page on November 6, 2026:
US$ 144 /year for one person
Canva is not the most powerful generator here, but it is the shortest path from a prompt to a finished marketing asset. Its AI Image Generator turns a prompt or reference photo into an image in a chosen style and aspect ratio, right on the design page, and Text to Graphic produces icons, stickers and illustrations to match. Magic Edit swaps objects or backgrounds with a short prompt, and Magic Eraser removes distractions. Because the image lands inside a template with your Brand Kit fonts and colors, a social post or flyer can be finished without exporting anything. The AI allowance is shared across tools: Pro gives 10 times the Free amount and Business 20 times, with an AI Pass add-on for more. Pro costs US$144 a year for one person, and Business, at US$250 a year per person, adds 100 Brand Kits, approvals and team admin. Designers who need fine control over models will find it limited.
Strengths
- +Generated images go straight into 1,000+ design types
- +Pro includes 10 times more AI than Free, Business 20 times
- +Free plan includes limited Standard and Premium AI
Drawbacks
- −Fewer model and style controls than dedicated generators
- −Heavy AI users need the paid AI Pass add-on
- −Brand approvals require the Business plan
- Free plan
- Yes, limited access to Standard and Premium AI
- Pro
- US$144 a year for one person, 5 Brand Kits
- Business
- US$250 a year per person, 100 Brand Kits and approvals
- Image styles
- 10+ including Photo, Cinematic, 3D Render and Vector
- Editing
- Magic Edit, Magic Eraser and Photo Editor

Plus from $20 a month, or $180 billed annually; Team $30 per user a month
Quoted from the Ideogram pricing page on November 6, 2026:
$20 per month, $180 billed annually
Ideogram works as a small design suite as well as a generator, which makes it a practical fit for social and paid media teams. Beside the Ideogram 4.5 and Ideogram Vector models, the platform lists apps for Ad Resizer, Background Remover, Precise Edit, Colorways, Material Swap and Object Remover, covering much of the cleanup work that follows a generation. Paid plans include unlimited slow credits, private generation and unlimited character consistency, while priority credits set how much you can generate instantly: 2,400 a month on Plus, 7,500 on Pro and 3,600 per user on Team. Pro adds batch generation for high-volume work, and Team brings central billing and administration. Enterprise customers can train private custom models on their own visual data. Credit costs vary widely by model and quality, from under one credit to 22 credits per image on Ideogram 4.5, so heavy users should check the per-model table before picking a tier.
Strengths
- +Team plan adds central billing and administration
- +Unlimited character consistency on paid plans
- +API access with pay-as-you-go credits at 1 cent each
Drawbacks
- −Priority credits are limited, so fast generation is capped
- −Batch generation needs the $60 Pro plan
- −Custom model training is limited to higher tiers
- Plus
- $20 a month or $180 a year, 2,400 priority credits a month
- Pro
- $60 a month or $504 a year, 7,500 priority credits
- Team
- $30 per user a month or $240 a year, 3,600 credits per user
- API
- Pay as you go at 1 cent per credit
- Enterprise

Free plan for personal use; Basic from $10 a month billed annually ($120), plus VAT where applicable
Quoted from the Recraft pricing page on November 6, 2026:
$10 per month billed annually
Recraft is built for design output rather than pictures alone. Its standout is generating complex, editable vector graphics, which suits logos, icons, illustrations and packaging work that has to scale. Custom styles and color palettes help keep a series of images on brand, and paid plans let you run third-party models such as Nano Banana, Seedream, GPT Image and Flux from the same workspace, up to 20 images per generation. Licensing is clear: paid plans grant full ownership and commercial rights, images stay private, and they remain yours after you cancel, while Free plan images are public, owned by Recraft and not licensed for commercial use. Basic costs $10 a month on annual billing for 1,000 credits, Pro adds video at $16, and Teams at $18 per seat brings shared workspaces, shared styles, centralized billing and SSO. Credits reset monthly, with non-expiring top-ups for busier months. An API covers vector generation, inpainting and batch jobs.
Strengths
- +Paid plans grant full ownership and commercial rights
- +Images stay private after a subscription ends
- +Teams plan adds shared styles and single sign-on
Drawbacks
- −Free plan images are public and not licensed for commercial use
- −Unused subscription credits do not roll over
- −Video generation needs the Pro plan
- Free plan
- Yes, personal use only, images public
- Basic
- $10 a month billed annually, 1,000 credits a month
- Pro
- $16 a month billed annually, 2,000 credits and video
- Teams
- $18 per seat a month billed annually, SSO
- Commercial rights

Pay per use: Nano Banana 2.1 is about $0.0336 per 1K image, $0.0504 at 2K and $0.113 at 4K
Quoted from the Google Nano Banana (Gemini API) pricing page on November 6, 2026:
Output images at 1K (1024x1024px) consume 1120 tokens and are equivalent to $0.0336 per image.
Nano Banana is Google's name for Gemini's native image generation, and through the Gemini API it is one of the cheapest ways to produce images at volume. The current Nano Banana 2.1 model is described as built for efficient generation and conversational editing, with accurate text rendering, character consistency across turns and search-grounded generation. A 1K image works out to about $0.0336, a 2K image $0.0504 and a 4K image $0.113, with batch processing at half the output rate; Nano Banana Pro costs about $0.134 per image up to 2K for higher-end work. You can test prompts in Google AI Studio before writing code, and the API lets you set output format, aspect ratio and size. The catch for marketing teams is the interface: this is a developer product, so most will reach it through AI Studio, an internal tool or a partner app. Every image carries an invisible SynthID watermark, and grounding cannot pull real photos of people.
Strengths
- +Among the lowest per-image prices on this list
- +Batch pricing halves the image output rate
- +Output size and aspect ratio are configurable
Drawbacks
- −API-first, so non-technical teams need AI Studio or another app
- −Every image carries a SynthID watermark
- −Search grounding cannot use real-world images of people
- Free plan
- Not listed for image output
- Nano Banana 2.1
- About $0.0336 per 1K image
- Nano Banana Pro
- About $0.134 per 1K to 2K image

Free plan with 150 fast tokens a day; Essential listed at $12 a month before tax, with up to 20% off on yearly billing
Quoted from the Leonardo.ai pricing page on November 6, 2026:
ESSENTIAL $12 /month ex. tax.
Leonardo.ai packs a wide model choice into a token system. Paid plans open more than 80 models, including FLUX and Leonardo's own Lucid and Phoenix models, and let you train personal AI models on your own images, ten on Essential and up to 50 on Ultimate, which helps keep a consistent product or character style. Premium and Ultimate add unlimited image generation at a relaxed pace on selected models, which takes pressure off token budgets for exploratory work. Unused fast tokens roll into a token bank up to three months of allowance. Team plans share tokens across seats, keep generations private to the team and allow model training with team tokens, starting at $24 per seat. The free plan is real but limited: 150 fast tokens a day, public creations and only the Auto model. For marketing teams the main friction is planning around tokens, since costs vary by model and quality, and the unlimited tier does not cover every model.
Strengths
- +Permanent free plan with daily tokens
- +Unused fast tokens roll into a token bank
- +Team plans can train models with shared tokens
Drawbacks
- −Free plan creations are public and limited to Auto model
- −Unlimited relaxed generation covers selected models only
- −Team plans are priced per seat, from $24 per seat a month
- Free plan
- Yes, 150 fast tokens a day, public creations

Pay as you go with no subscription: FLUX 3 Image from $0.041 per 768 × 768 image and $0.048 at 1K
Quoted from the FLUX by Black Forest Labs pricing page on November 6, 2026:
FLUX 3 Image 768 × 768 $0.041 /img 1K $0.048 /img
Black Forest Labs makes the FLUX models, which also appear inside Firefly, Recraft and Leonardo.ai, and it sells them directly through an API with no subscription or seat fees. FLUX 3 Image handles text to image and image to image, with prices of $0.041 per image at 768 by 768, $0.048 at 1K and $0.10 at 2K, while the smaller FLUX 3 Image Klein runs from $0.008 per image and is available as open weights. FLUX.2 and Kontext models add reference-image editing, and separate tools cover outpainting, object removal, deblurring and upscaling. Larger companies can license open weights to run models on their own infrastructure, and BFL lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certification. For a marketing team this is a building block, not an app: there is a browser playground for testing, but no editor, brand kit or asset library. Teams that want FLUX without code can reach it inside Firefly, Recraft or Leonardo.ai.
Strengths
- +No subscriptions or seat fees
- +SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified, per BFL
- +Browser playground for testing prompts
Drawbacks
- −Built for developers rather than marketers
- −4K output costs far more per image
- −No design editor, brand kit or asset library
- Free plan
- No, pay as you go
- FLUX 3 Image
- $0.041 at 768 × 768, $0.048 at 1K, $0.10 at 2K

What to check before you buy
Read the commercial terms before the feature list
Commercial rights differ by plan. Midjourney requires Pro or Mega for companies grossing over $1 million a year, Recraft's free images are public and not licensed for commercial use, and Adobe allows commercial use of Firefly features that are out of beta. Check the plan you will actually buy.
Decide how much privacy you need
Several tools publish images to a community gallery by default. Midjourney keeps work private only with Stealth Mode on Pro and Mega, Leonardo.ai and Recraft make free plan creations public, and Ideogram and Recraft paid plans include private generation. Unreleased campaign work should never sit in a public feed.
Match the tool to the final asset
If images go straight into posts and decks, Canva saves an export step. For logos, icons and illustrations, Recraft and Ideogram generate vectors. For retouching existing photos, Firefly's generative fill and expand tools and GPT Image's conversational edits fit better than prompt-only generators.
Compare subscription and per-image pricing
Subscriptions such as Ideogram Plus at $20 a month or Recraft Basic at $10 a month suit steady creative work. For high-volume jobs like product backgrounds, per-image APIs are cheaper: Google's Nano Banana 2.1 is about $0.034 per 1K image and FLUX 3 Image $0.048. Batch modes from Google and OpenAI cut rates by half.
Plan for team seats and admin
Team features cost extra. Ideogram Team is $30 per user a month, Recraft Teams $18 per seat on annual billing with SSO, Leonardo.ai Team from $24 per seat, and Canva Business US$250 a year per person with brand approvals. Midjourney has no seat-based team plan on its comparison page.
Common questions
- What is the best AI image generator for marketing teams in 2026?
- Midjourney ranks first on our list for output quality, from $10 a month, with Pro at $60 required for companies grossing over $1 million a year. Adobe Firefly is the runner-up for brand teams that want models trained on licensed content.
- Can I use AI-generated images commercially?
- Usually yes on paid plans, but terms vary. Midjourney allows commercial use on all plans with Pro or Mega required above $1 million in revenue, Recraft grants commercial rights only on paid plans, and Adobe allows commercial use of Firefly features without the beta label.
