Digital Advertising Statistics 2026
This page collects figures on digital advertising: how big the market is, which formats and channels are growing, how much the largest ad platforms earn, how ad blocking and privacy attitudes affect the market, and what small businesses spend. US format figures come from the IAB/PwC Internet Advertising Revenue Report for 2025. Global forecasts come from WARC and WPP Media, UK figures from the Advertising Association/WARC Expenditure Report, and platform figures from the latest quarterly releases and SEC filings of Alphabet, Meta, Amazon, The Trade Desk, Reddit, Pinterest and Snap. Ad blocking, privacy and small business figures come from eyeo, Pew Research Center, Eurostat, Intuit QuickBooks and the Connected Commerce Council. Most data describes 2025 and 2026; older survey data is labeled with its year.

What the figures show
Digital advertising is still growing at about twice the pace of the wider economy. The IAB/PwC report counts $294.6 billion of US internet ad revenue in 2025, up 13.9% in a year without the Olympics, a World Cup or a federal election. Globally, WARC forecasts $1.34 trillion of ad spend across all media in 2026 and WPP Media $1.3 trillion excluding US political ads; most of that total is now digital. The UK follows the same pattern on a smaller scale, with AA/WARC forecasting £51.3 billion in 2026.
The growth is concentrated in social media, video and retail media. US social ad revenue rose 32.6% to $117.7 billion and passed search, which grew 11%, its slowest rate in years. WARC expects social to grow 21.3% globally in 2026 and social platforms to take more than half of all video ad spend for the first time. Commerce media reached $63.4 billion in the US, and in the UK retail media is forecast to be the fastest growing channel in 2026 at 23.0%.
Platform results show how concentrated the money is. Meta earned $63,061 million from ads in the third quarter of 2026, with both impressions (up 10%) and prices (up 14%) rising. Google advertising brought in $82,012 million and Amazon $19,637 million in the same quarter. WARC and WPP Media both put these three companies near 60% of ad spend outside China. Smaller platforms are mixed: Reddit's ad revenue grew 54%, while The Trade Desk grew 3% in the second quarter.
Limits on targeting have not slowed spending so far. eyeo estimates 1.1 billion people block ads, now mostly on mobile, and Pew found 73% of US adults feel they have little or no control over company data use. Most EU firms that buy online ads use contextual targeting, and only 32.59% of EU businesses with 10 or more staff buy online ads at all. Small US businesses remain keen buyers: 51% in Intuit's survey planned to raise ad budgets, and 71% in the Connected Commerce Council's survey said tighter data rules would hurt their ads.

How we picked these figures
We chose figures that describe the size and growth of digital advertising, the split by format and channel, platform revenue, ad blocking and privacy, and small business spending, and we read each one on the publisher's own page, press release, report or SEC filing. IAB/PwC figures are reported US revenue for 2025; WARC, WPP Media and AA/WARC 2026 figures are forecasts and use different market definitions, so their totals do not match. Company figures are quarterly results in each company's own segment definitions; Pinterest and Snap report total revenue, which is mostly advertising. eyeo sells ad filtering technology and the Connected Commerce Council is an advocacy group whose partners include large ad platforms, so we label their figures by source. Pew's privacy data is from 2023 and Eurostat's from 2024, the latest editions available. UK figures are in pounds and are not converted. Each quote is copied from the original publisher and fetched again by a script to confirm it still appears there. See the methodology.
