10 Best Compliance Automation Software of 2026

By the TopToolAdvisor research desk · Updated November 6, 2026 · Next review December 21, 2026 · 10 products scored

Our pickSecureframeStartups that want a published starting price and broad automation for SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HIPAA.8.7

Our pick in brief

Vanta is the strongest all-round platform for a first audit and the program after it, with evidence collection, monitoring, a Trust Center and an AI agent on its entry plan. Secureframe matches much of that breadth and publishes a $7,500 per year starting price. Drata is the pick for developer-heavy teams that want compliance as code. Sprinto packs the most into its base tier, and ComplyJet is the best value for small teams because its $7,999 per year Core plan includes an external audit. Accountable is the low-cost HIPAA option, Scytale and Carbide add human guidance, Strike Graph has the only free plan, and Thoropass combines the platform and the auditor.

Quick answer

Vanta is the best compliance automation software for startups and SaaS companies preparing for SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HIPAA in 2026, though it only sells on quote. Secureframe suits teams that want broad automation with a published floor, from $7,500 per year, and Drata suits engineering-led teams under 50 people. Strike Graph has a free plan for SOC 2 security groundwork, and Accountable is the cheapest paid option at $169 per month billed annually for HIPAA.

This list is for startups and SaaS companies getting ready for a first SOC 2 report, ISO 27001 certification or HIPAA program. We compared documented features and published prices for 10 compliance automation tools and scored each on features, ease of use and value. Prices are in US dollars as shown on each vendor's pricing page on the date we checked. Most vendors in this category, including Vanta, Drata, Sprinto, Scytale and Thoropass, sell only on quote, so those entries show a pending price. Published prices here are yearly for most tools, and the cost of the audit itself is usually extra unless a vendor says it is included.

Fundamentals from $7,500 per year; Complete and Defense quote based

Quoted from the Secureframe pricing page on November 6, 2026: Fundamentals Starting at $7,500/year

Secureframe ranks second and is the easiest of the large platforms to budget for, since its Fundamentals package starts at $7,500 per year on the public pricing page. That plan covers one framework with infrastructure monitoring, more than 300 native integrations, automated evidence collection, continuous control monitoring, personnel onboarding and offboarding, security awareness training, risk management, policy templates with Comply AI and a Trust Center. The Secureframe Agent for devices and access to an audit partner network are included. Limits show up in the details: Fundamentals allows one custom automated test, 100 AI-answered questionnaire questions a year and 15 Trust Center document requests a year. Complete lifts those to unlimited tests and 15,000 questions, and adds advanced third-party risk, user access reviews, SSO and SCIM and custom integrations. Defense targets CMMC with an SPRS score tracker, SSP and POA&M tools and a managed CUI enclave. For a startup that wants Vanta-level breadth with a known floor price, Secureframe is a strong choice.

    Strengths

    • +One of few leaders with a published starting price, $7,500 per year
    • +Fundamentals includes risk management, policy management and a Trust Center
    • +Defense package adds SSP, POA&M and a managed CUI enclave for CMMC

    Drawbacks

Vanta takes the top spot because its entry plan does more of the audit groundwork than most rivals. Essentials includes one compliance framework, automated evidence collection, continuous controls monitoring, a pre-built policy and controls library, a Trust Center and an Auditor API, along with the Vanta AI Agent for searching your program, checking evidence and generating policies. Plus adds automated policy onboarding, access management and 25 AI-answered security questionnaires a year, which matters once enterprise buyers start sending reviews. Professional brings risk management with dashboards, custom monitoring tests, automated access management and 144 questionnaires a year. You can use an auditor from Vanta's network or bring your own. The weak point is cost transparency: Vanta publishes no prices, so you only learn the figure on a sales call, and several features buyers ask for early, like questionnaire automation, sit above the entry tier. For a funded startup that wants the deepest automation and a long runway of features, it is the safest pick.

    Strengths

    • +Essentials already covers evidence collection, monitoring, a Trust Center and an AI agent
    • +Clear upgrade path to risk management, custom tests and automated access reviews
    • +Device Monitor checks encryption, lockscreen and antivirus on employee laptops

    Drawbacks

    • −No public price; every plan needs a sales quote
    • −Questionnaire automation starts on Plus, not Essentials

Drata is a close third and the best fit for teams that want compliance to live next to their code. Its Foundation plan covers up to 50 full-time employees and one pre-mapped framework, chosen from SOC 2, ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials, HIPAA and GDPR, which lines up with the frameworks most startups need first. The plan includes pre-built integrations, automated evidence collection, policy templates, a standard Trust Center, AI questionnaire assistance, risk management with a pre-loaded library, custom controls, compliance as code and open API access. Audit Hub keeps auditor communication and documents in one place. Advanced unlocks any framework plus custom connections, tests, fields and formulas, and Enterprise adds Risk Management Pro, Compliance as Code Pro and user access reviews. Drata does not publish prices, and the 50 FTE cap means a fast-growing company may move tiers sooner than expected. For a technical team that wants to fix control failures in pull requests rather than in spreadsheets, it is a natural choice.

    Strengths

    • +Compliance as code and an open API come with the entry plan
    • +Risk management and custom controls are included from Foundation
    • +Drata says it serves more than 8,500 customers

    Drawbacks

    • −No public price

Core from $7,999 per year with one framework and one external audit; Plus from $9,999 per year with two frameworks

Quoted from the ComplyJet pricing page on November 6, 2026: CORE $ 7999 /year onwards

ComplyJet is the best value pick for a small startup because its published price covers both the software and the audit. Core starts at $7,999 per year for one framework and up to 50 employees, and includes full platform access, one external audit by an AICPA-accredited firm for SOC 2 or an IAS-accredited firm for ISO 27001, implementation support and an internal audit. Plus at $9,999 per year covers two frameworks. The platform handles automated evidence collection, always-on control monitoring, AI policy drafting, AI-generated fixes for failing tests and two-way sync with your task tracker, and you can take a vetted auditor or bring your own. Support runs in app and by email with a 15-minute SLA plus weekly calls until you are ready. A Takeoff plan targets companies under five people incorporated in the last year. The tradeoffs are scale and depth: the 50 employee cap and fewer advanced GRC modules make it a first-audit tool more than a long-term program for a large company.

    Strengths

    • +The listed price includes an external audit
    • +Weekly guidance calls until you are audit ready
    • +A Takeoff plan for teams under 5 people incorporated in the last 12 months

    Drawbacks

    • −Core covers one framework and up to 50 employees

Sprinto earns fourth place with the fullest entry plan for a startup that wants more than audit prep. Foundation, which Sprinto pitches at startups on their first certification, automates more than 25 frameworks out of the box, monitors controls across 300+ integrations and collects evidence automatically. It also includes audit planning, access to Sprinto's auditor network, AI-assisted policies, onboarding and offboarding workflows with ready-made training, automated vendor discovery with AI document reviews, periodic risk assessments, 20 AI-answered security questionnaires a year and a public trust center with a custom domain. An AI systems inventory with AI risk assessments is included too, useful for companies selling AI features. Growth adds programmable monitors, a rule engine, custom workflows, bring your own auditor, internal audits, a dedicated CSM and Slack or Teams support. Like most rivals Sprinto hides its prices, and the ability to choose your own auditor sits on Growth. For breadth in the base tier it is hard to beat.

    Strengths

    • +Foundation bundles vendor risk, risk management, training and a trust center
    • +AI governance inventory and AI risk assessments are part of the base plan
    • +Access to Sprinto's auditor network

Quoted from the Accountable pricing page on November 6, 2026: Core HIPAA compliance for small teams. $ 199 169 /mo Billed monthly, cancel anytime Billed annually at $2,028/yr

Accountable is the budget pick for teams whose main requirement is HIPAA. Its Basic HIPAA plan costs $169 per month billed annually, or $199 billed monthly, and includes 15 employees, with extra seats at $9 a month. That covers the Compliance Copilot AI agent, policies and procedures, a security risk assessment, HIPAA training, incident response, a data inventory and flow map, vendor and BAA management, a Trust Center with a HIPAA badge and an audit log. Plus at $254 per month billed annually adds phishing simulation, MFA and access control reviews, exclusion screening, a compliance hotline, a privacy center for DSARs and remediation plans, and Pro at $679 adds hands-on support for 20 employees. Signup is self-serve with a 7-day trial, which is rare in this category. The catch is scope: Accountable is built for HIPAA, so a SaaS company that also needs SOC 2 or ISO 27001 for enterprise buyers will want one of the multi-framework platforms above it.

    Strengths

    • +The cheapest published paid plan on this list at $169 per month billed annually
    • +Self-serve signup with a 7-day free trial and monthly billing
    • +Built around HIPAA, including BAA tracking and workforce training

    Drawbacks

    • −Focused on HIPAA rather than SOC 2 or ISO 27001
    • −Extra seats cost $9 to $19 per month each beyond the included employees

Scytale suits founders who want a person to lean on as well as a platform. Its Build plan, for companies under 150 employees, includes the Scy Agent GRC co-pilot, automated evidence collection, pre-built policies and controls, risk assessment, a Trust Center, user access reviews, vendor management, open API access and MCP. Agentic tools include compliance onboarding, a gap remediator, a policy generator and evidence readiness checks, capped at 100 evidence reviews a year on Build and 500 on Scale. Alongside the software, Scytale offers GRC expert services: dedicated experts who run readiness assessments, gap analysis and control implementation and stay involved after the audit. Supported frameworks include SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR, PCI DSS and ISO 42001, with penetration testing, cloud assessment and SOX ITGC sold as add-ons. Scytale does not publish prices, and the evidence review caps mean larger programs need Scale. For a small team without a security hire, the human guidance is the main reason to pick it.

    Strengths

    • +Build includes user access reviews, which several rivals charge more for
    • +In-house GRC experts guide audit readiness and post-audit work
    • +Agentic evidence readiness checks, 100 per year on Build

    Drawbacks

Quoted from the Carbide pricing page on November 6, 2026: Plans for companies of all sizes, starting at just $7500 annually

Carbide is a good middle ground between pure software and a consultant. Its pricing page lists Foundation at $7,500 per year for one framework, Advanced at $12,500 for two and Insights at $22,000 for three, with a quoted Fractional CISO package on top. Every platform tier includes a policy generation and signoff toolkit, a project management suite, security awareness training, automated evidence collection, risk assessment, asset management, vendor management, cloud security and compliance monitoring, an audit manager with auditor collaboration, a template library and a trust center. Higher tiers add multi-framework mapping, an AI security assistant and weekly vulnerability scans. Insights adds a dedicated security advisor who runs a gap analysis and risk assessment and prepares a shareable report with third-party attestation, while the Fractional CISO plan has Carbide's advisors build parts of the program and run internal audits. The platform's automation is less extensive than the leaders, but the published tiers make costs easy to plan.

    Strengths

    • +Published prices for three platform tiers
    • +Advisor-led gap analysis and risk assessment on Insights
    • +Fractional CISO package for a hands-on, shared responsibility program

    Drawbacks

    • −Foundation covers one framework, with multi-framework mapping on higher tiers
    • −Weekly vulnerability scans and the AI security assistant are listed for higher tiers
    • −Smaller integration and automation story than the leaders

Quoted from the Strike Graph pricing page on November 6, 2026: Launch FREE Certify Scale starts at $21,500/year Enterprise starts at $35,000/year

Strike Graph stands out for two reasons: a permanent free plan and unusually detailed public pricing. The free Launch plan gives you core GRC for risks, controls and evidence, the SOC 2 security trust services criteria, an activity log, control monitoring, limited policy templates and a 30-minute audit advisor call, enough to start mapping controls before you commit budget. Certify starts at $21,500 per year with one Tier 1 framework such as SOC 2, HIPAA or GDPR, unlimited risks, controls and evidence, full audit workbook export, 50+ cloud integrations, cross-framework mappings and Trust Chain third-party risk management. Scale, from $35,000 per year, allows one framework of any tier, including CMMC, and adds advanced AI, POA&Ms, MCP server access and SBOM monitoring. Extra frameworks are priced openly as yearly add-ons, with ISO 27001 in Tier 2. The downside is that the first paid tier costs far more than Secureframe, Carbide or ComplyJet, so the free plan is the real draw for early teams.

    Strengths

    • +The only permanent free plan on this list
    • +Published prices for paid tiers and for extra frameworks
    • +Covers a long list of frameworks, from SOC 2 to CMMC and HITRUST

    Drawbacks

    • −Certify at $21,500 per year is the highest published entry price here
    • −ISO 27001 is a Tier 2 framework, sold as a yearly add-on when your included framework is SOC 2

We could not confirm a US price yet. Check the Thoropass pricing page.

Thoropass takes a different approach from the rest of this list: it positions itself as an end-to-end cybersecurity auditor, with audit experts for every framework supported by an AI-native platform. Instead of buying compliance software and then hiring an audit firm, you collect evidence, prepare and complete the audit with the same provider. Its platform reuses evidence across frameworks by matching overlapping requirements, which helps a company moving from SOC 2 to ISO 27001 or HIPAA avoid duplicate work. Coverage includes SOC 1 and SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 42001, HIPAA, HITRUST e1 and i1, PCI DSS with ASV scans, and GDPR, and it also sells audit-ready penetration testing and vulnerability scanning. Thoropass says more than 2,000 organizations use it. It ranks lower here because it publishes no prices and its site describes the audit service more than the self-serve automation features, which makes it harder to compare against software-first tools. If one vendor for readiness and attestation is the priority, put it on your shortlist.

    Strengths

    • +Readiness and the audit happen on one platform with one provider
    • +Evidence is reused across overlapping frameworks
    • +Thoropass says it works with more than 2,000 organizations

    Drawbacks

    • −No public price
    • −Less suited to teams that want to pick a separate audit firm

What to check before you buy

Start with the framework your buyers ask for

Most entry plans include one framework. SOC 2 is the usual first ask from US customers, ISO 27001 from European and global buyers, and HIPAA for anyone handling patient data. Drata Foundation, Vanta Essentials, Secureframe Fundamentals and Carbide Foundation each include one, so price the second framework before you sign if you will need it within a year.

Budget for the audit separately

Compliance software prepares you for an audit but rarely includes it. ComplyJet includes one external audit in its Core price and Thoropass delivers the audit itself. With most other tools you pay an audit firm on top, so ask each vendor for its auditor network and whether you can bring your own.

Check headcount and usage caps

Entry tiers are often sized for small teams. Drata Foundation covers up to 50 FTEs, ComplyJet Core up to 50 employees, Scytale Build under 150 employees and Accountable Basic 15 employees. Questionnaire automation, evidence reviews and Trust Center requests are also capped per year on several plans.

Decide how much human help you need

Teams without a security lead may want guidance as well as software. Scytale offers in-house GRC experts, Carbide sells advisor-led packages up to a fractional CISO, and ComplyJet runs weekly calls until you are audit ready. Software-first tools like Vanta and Drata lean on partner networks for services.

Ask for quotes in the same format

Half the vendors here publish no prices. Request quotes for the same framework, headcount and term, and ask what is an add-on, such as user access reviews, questionnaire automation or extra frameworks, so you compare like for like.

Common questions

What is compliance automation software?
It is software that connects to your cloud, identity, HR and code tools to collect audit evidence automatically, monitor security controls and manage policies for frameworks like SOC 2, ISO 27001 and HIPAA. Most tools also add a Trust Center, risk register and vendor reviews.
How much does compliance automation software cost?
Among vendors that publish prices, Secureframe and Carbide start at $7,500 per year, ComplyJet at $7,999 per year with an audit included, and Strike Graph's Certify plan at $21,500 per year. Accountable's HIPAA plan costs $169 per month billed annually. Vanta, Drata, Sprinto, Scytale and Thoropass quote prices on request.
Is there free compliance automation software?
Strike Graph has a free Launch plan that covers core GRC for risks, controls and evidence plus the SOC 2 security criteria. It is useful for groundwork, but a full audit program needs a paid plan.
Does compliance software include the SOC 2 audit?
Usually not. Most platforms prepare evidence and connect you with an audit firm that you pay separately. ComplyJet includes one external audit in its Core and Plus prices, and Thoropass performs the audit with its own audit team.
Which tool is best for HIPAA?
Accountable is built for HIPAA and costs $169 per month billed annually for 15 employees. If you also need SOC 2 or ISO 27001, multi-framework platforms such as Vanta, Secureframe or Drata cover HIPAA alongside them.
