10 Best Website Analytics Tools of 2026

By the TopToolAdvisor research desk · Updated November 5, 2026 · Next review December 20, 2026 · 10 products scored

Our pickPlausible AnalyticsSite owners, creators and small businesses who want simple traffic, campaign and goal reports without cookie banners.8.7

Our pick in brief

Plausible is the strongest pick for most site owners because it fits every key traffic report on one page, needs no cookie banner and starts at $9 a month with a 30-day trial. Google Analytics 4 remains the most capable free option and the default for teams that buy Google Ads, but its reports take longer to learn. Matomo is the most complete privacy-focused suite, with heatmaps, A/B testing and a free self-hosted edition. Umami pairs a free Hobby plan with funnels, retention and revenue reports, and Fathom offers simple pageview-based pricing with 50 sites included. Mixpanel is the better fit when you need product analytics alongside web traffic, Clicky stands out for real-time visitor detail at $9.99 a month, Simple Analytics is the simplest consent-free dashboard, Piwik PRO serves regulated industries, and Adobe Analytics is built for large enterprises on custom contracts.

Quick answer

Plausible is the best website analytics tool for site owners who want clear, cookieless traffic reports in 2026, from $9 a month. Google Analytics 4 suits marketers who run Google Ads and need attribution and predictive audiences, and it is free. Umami is the best low-cost privacy pick, with a free Hobby plan and Pro at $20 a month.

This list is for site owners, marketers and small product teams choosing a tool to measure website traffic, including those looking for a privacy-friendly alternative to Google Analytics. We compared documented features and published prices for 10 tools, from free and enterprise suites to lightweight cookieless dashboards and event-based product analytics, and scored each on features, ease of use and value. Prices are the cheapest paid plan in US dollars as shown on the vendor's pricing page on the date we checked. Matomo, Simple Analytics and Piwik PRO showed only euro prices from our location, and Adobe Analytics does not publish prices, so their pricing is marked as pending.

    Price

Starter from $9 per month for up to 10,000 monthly pageviews; Growth $14 and Business $19 at that volume; 30-day free trial

    Quoted from the Plausible Analytics pricing page on November 5, 2026: Up to 10k monthly pageviews 10k 10k 10M+ Starter /year /month $9 /month

Plausible ranks first because it answers the questions most site owners ask without the setup GA4 demands. The dashboard puts visitors, sources, pages, locations, devices and goals on one page, with a real-time view that refreshes every 30 seconds. It tracks scroll depth automatically, groups UTM campaigns into channels, imports Google Analytics history and connects Search Console so organic queries sit beside traffic. A newer report shows visits from AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude. Plausible collects no personal data and sets no cookies, so analytics needs no consent banner, and all data stays on European-owned servers. Starter costs $9 a month for one site and up to 10,000 monthly pageviews, Growth adds three sites and team sharing, and Business at $19 adds funnels, user journeys, custom properties, ecommerce revenue attribution and the Stats API. There is no free plan, but the 30-day trial needs no card.

    Strengths

    • +No cookies or personal data, so no cookie banner is needed for analytics
    • +Script is 54 times smaller than Google Analytics, according to Plausible
    • +30-day free trial with no credit card

    Price

Free; Analytics 360 for enterprises is priced through Google sales

Quoted from the Google Analytics 4 pricing page on November 5, 2026: Google Analytics gives you the tools, free of charge, to understand the customer journey and improve marketing ROI.

Google Analytics 4 is the most capable free tool here, which is why it ranks second despite a steeper learning curve. It collects events from websites and apps into one property and offers acquisition, engagement, ecommerce and real-time reports. Google's machine learning adds predictive audiences, such as likely purchasers, and surfaces unusual changes automatically. Attribution is a real strength: data-driven attribution, conversion path and model comparison reports show how each channel contributes, and audiences and conversions flow straight into Google Ads. Explorations let analysts build funnels, path analyses and cohorts, and BigQuery export gives raw data for deeper work. The limits matter for some sites. Free properties keep event data for up to 14 months, allow 100 audiences and 30 key events, and sample explorations above 10 million events per query. Higher limits, unsampled results and service level agreements require Analytics 360, which Google sells through its sales team.

    Strengths

    • +Free for most sites, with Analytics 360 available for larger needs
    • +Deepest attribution and advertising integration in this list
    • +Measures websites and apps in one property

    Drawbacks

    • −Event data retention is limited to up to 14 months on the free version
    • −Explorations are sampled above 10 million events per query
    • −Reports take more training than one-page dashboards

    Price

Free Hobby plan; Pro $20 per month with 1 million events; Business $200 per month; 14-day free trial

Quoted from the Umami pricing page on November 5, 2026: Pro $20 / month Try 14-day free trial Everything in Hobby, plus: 1 million events per month included

Umami offers more analysis than most cookieless tools at a low price. Every plan, including the free Hobby tier, includes breakdowns, funnels, user retention, user journeys, UTM tracking, goals, revenue and attribution reports, plus real-time events and custom dashboards. Hobby covers one website and up to 100,000 events a month with 6 months of retention. Pro costs $20 a month for 1 million events, up to 20 websites and 10 team members, keeps data for 2 years and adds API access, MCP access, integrations and email support. Business at $200 a month adds 10 million events, session replays, heatmaps and white labeling. Overage is billed per event rather than cutting off collection. Umami states it uses no cookies and collects no personal data, and the code is open source. The dashboard is clean, though teams moving from GA4 should note that each saved event property counts as an event.

    Strengths

    • +Free Hobby plan with up to 100,000 events a month
    • +Open-source code with no cookies and no personal data collected
    • +Product analytics reports included even on the free plan

    Drawbacks

    • −Hobby plan covers one website and keeps 6 months of data

    Price

See vendor pricing (USD check pending): Cloud priced by monthly hits, shown in EUR from our location; On-Premise free to download

We could not confirm a US price yet. Check the Matomo pricing page.

Matomo is the most complete privacy-focused alternative to Google Analytics. Every plan includes ecommerce, event, campaign, content and site search tracking, real-time reports, segmentation, visitor profiles, scheduled email reports and HTTP APIs, and the Cloud Business plan adds heatmaps, session recordings, A/B testing, funnels, forms analytics, cohorts, multi-channel attribution and a tag manager. Matomo does not sample data, and Cloud keeps report data forever with 24 months of raw data. You own the data either way: Cloud is hosted in Europe, and the On-Premise edition is free to download and run on your own servers, with paid plugin bundles for premium features. Matomo also documents consent-free tracking setups. A Google Analytics importer helps with migration. The trade-off is complexity, since the interface has many more reports than Plausible or Fathom. Cloud pricing scales with monthly hits and showed only in euros from our location.

    Strengths

    • +100% data ownership on both Cloud and On-Premise
    • +Very broad feature set, including tag manager and attribution
    • +Free trial on Cloud with no credit card

    Drawbacks

    • −Interface has more menus than one-page dashboards

    Price

From $15 per month for up to 100,000 monthly pageviews; 2 months free with yearly billing; 7-day free trial

Quoted from the Fathom Analytics pricing page on November 5, 2026: $15/month Up to 100,000 monthly pageviews

Fathom keeps website analytics simple and prices it the same way. Every plan includes the same features, and you choose only a monthly pageview tier, from $15 a month for up to 100,000 pageviews to $470 for 25 million, with custom pricing above that. Each plan covers 50 sites, and extra packs of 50 sites cost $10 a month, which makes Fathom attractive for agencies and people with many small properties. The single-page dashboard shows traffic, sources and pages, and every plan includes event and revenue tracking, UTM campaign tracking, saved views, shared dashboards, automatic bot filtering, an analytics API, unlimited email reports and exports. Fathom uses no cookies, so no banner is required for analytics, and it isolates EU traffic. The limits: there is no free plan, the 7-day trial needs a card, custom events share the pageview allowance, and the pricing page lists no funnel or retention reports.

    Strengths

    • +50 sites included on every plan
    • +Every plan has the same features; you only pick a pageview tier
    • +No cookie banners required for analytics

    Drawbacks

    • −No free plan, and the trial needs a card

    Price

Free plan for 1 site; Pro $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year; Pro Plus $14.99 and Pro Platinum $19.99 per month

    Quoted from the Clicky pricing page on November 5, 2026: Monthly price $9.99 $14.99 $19.99 Varies Annual price - save 33% $79.99 $119.99 $159.99

Clicky focuses on what is happening on your site right now and who is doing it. Its Spy view streams visitors live without refreshing, and visitor logs let you follow individual sessions, filter by several criteria and see summary metrics for matching visitors. Paid plans add segments, goals with revenue, campaign tracking compatible with UTM tags, split testing, alerts, multiple dashboards, organization names of visiting companies, path analysis, CSV or XML export and email reports. Clicky pings its servers while a visitor stays on a page, which it says gives more accurate bounce rates and time on site. The free plan tracks one site with up to 3,000 daily page views and 30 days of history. Pro costs $9.99 a month for 10 sites and 30,000 daily page views, or $79.99 a year, and Pro Plus at $14.99 adds heatmaps and uptime monitoring. The interface feels dated next to newer tools.

    Strengths

    • +Free plan for one site with up to 3,000 daily page views
    • +21-day premium trial for every new account
    • +Annual billing saves 33%

    Drawbacks

    Price

Free plan up to 1 million events a month; Growth from $140 per month, or $100 per month billed yearly, at 1.5 million events

Quoted from the Mixpanel pricing page on November 5, 2026: $ 100 / month $ 140 with monthly plan $ 1,200 total annual cost 18 M events per year

Mixpanel is a product analytics tool rather than a traffic counter, and it earns a place for teams that need to see what users do after they arrive. Reports are built on events, so you can chart funnels, retention and cohorts for any action, and the platform adds session replay, experiments and feature flags. The free plan is generous, with unlimited seats, up to 1 million events a month and 10,000 session replays. Growth raises the ceiling to 20 million events and 500,000 replays and adds unlimited saved reports and custom properties. At 1.5 million events Growth costs $140 a month, or $100 a month billed yearly, and the price climbs with volume. Companies under five years old with up to $8 million in funding can get the first year free. The catch is setup: Mixpanel works best with a deliberate tracking plan, and site owners who only want pageviews will find it heavier than needed.

    Strengths

    • +Free plan includes unlimited seats and up to 1 million events a month
    • +Startup program gives eligible companies their first year free
    • +Combines analytics, replay and experimentation in one product

    Drawbacks

    • −Event tracking plan needs setup before reports are useful
    • −Costs rise quickly with event volume
    • −More than a site owner needs for simple traffic reporting
    Free plan
Yes, up to 1 million events a month, unlimited seats
    Growth at 1.5M events
$140 monthly or $100 a month billed yearly

    Simple Analytics

An EU-hosted, cookieless analytics dashboard that collects no personal data and can run alongside GA4.

    Price

See vendor pricing (USD check pending): free plan for hobby sites; paid plan priced by pageviews, shown in EUR from our location

We could not confirm a US price yet. Check the Simple Analytics pricing page.

Simple Analytics does one thing well: it counts pageviews, events, referrers and campaigns without identifying anyone. It sets no cookies, creates no visitor IDs and collects no personal data, and website data is stored in the EU with primary infrastructure in the Netherlands. The dashboard fits on one page and needs no configuration. The company now positions the product as a companion to GA4, measuring traffic that Google's tags miss when visitors reject consent, and offers Enterprise customers a free 30-day proof of concept that compares both. Data can move into Looker Studio, Power BI or a warehouse through the Stats API and raw export API. A free plan covers one user and five websites but keeps only one month of history and requires a badge. The paid plan is priced by pageviews with extra users billed separately; it showed only euro prices from our location. Analysts will miss funnels and deeper segmentation.

    Strengths

    • +Free plan for up to 5 websites
    • +EU-hosted, with primary infrastructure in the Netherlands
    • +14-day trial with no credit card

    Drawbacks

    • −Free plan keeps only one month of history and requires a badge
    • −Extra users cost more on the paid plan
    • −Fewer analysis features than Matomo or GA4

We could not confirm a US price yet. Check the Piwik PRO pricing page.

Piwik PRO targets organizations where analytics must pass a compliance review. Its suite combines four modules: Analytics, Tag Manager, Data Activation and a consent management platform. Reports cover ecommerce, customer journeys and product analytics, with custom reports and dashboards, no data sampling by default and 25 months of retention. Anonymous tracking keeps collecting data when visitors decline cookies, which Piwik PRO says yields far more behavioral data. The Business plan allows up to 2 million monthly actions across up to 20 domains, is hosted on an EU-operated cloud in Sweden and is priced by usage with a 30-day trial. Enterprise tiers scale to unlimited actions and add data centers in the US, Germany, the Netherlands and other regions, HIPAA-compliant Azure hosting in the US and the option to sign a business associate agreement. Prices showed only in euros from our location, there is no free plan, and Business gives raw data through the API only.

    Strengths

    Price

See vendor pricing (USD check pending): priced through Adobe sales

We could not confirm a US price yet. Check the Adobe Analytics pricing page.

Adobe Analytics is built for enterprises that treat analytics as a core discipline. It brings web, mobile and product interaction data together so analysts can follow customer journeys across channels, attribute marketing results and break down data silos. The main interface, Analysis Workspace, lets analysts drag dimensions, metrics, segments and date ranges onto a canvas, add visualizations and organize work into panels, then share projects or schedule them for colleagues. A data dictionary helps teams keep definitions consistent, and governance controls cover granular permissions and privacy requirements. Adobe also sells related products, including a cross-channel customer analytics product, Product Analytics and Content Analytics. That depth comes at a cost. Adobe does not publish prices and sells through its sales team after a demo, and getting value from the platform usually takes implementation work and trained analysts. For most site owners it is far more than needed, which is why it ranks last on ease of use and value.

    Strengths

    • +Deep, flexible analysis for large data sets
    • +Strong governance and permission controls
    • +Connects with the wider Adobe customer experience stack

    Drawbacks

    • −No published prices; sold through sales
    • −Requires trained analysts and implementation work

What to check before you buy

Decide how much analysis you really need

Most site owners check visitors, top pages, referrers, campaigns and a few goals. Plausible, Fathom, Simple Analytics and Umami cover that on one dashboard. If you need attribution models, predictive audiences or ad-hoc explorations, Google Analytics 4, Matomo, Piwik PRO and Adobe Analytics go much deeper. Mixpanel suits product teams that analyze events, funnels and retention inside an app.

Check whether you need a consent banner

Cookieless tools reduce consent work in the EU. Plausible, Fathom, Simple Analytics and Umami all state that they use no cookies and need no cookie banner for analytics. Matomo can be configured for consent-free tracking, and Piwik PRO offers anonymous tracking when visitors decline cookies. Confirm the setup with your own legal advisor before removing a banner.

Price the plan at your real traffic

Privacy-friendly tools charge by volume. Plausible starts at $9 a month for up to 10,000 monthly pageviews, Fathom at $15 for up to 100,000, Umami Pro at $20 for 1 million events and Clicky Pro at $9.99 for 30,000 daily page views. Mixpanel is free up to 1 million events a month, then Growth costs $140 a month, or $100 a month billed yearly, at 1.5 million events.

Look at sites, seats and data retention

Limits differ more than headline prices. Fathom includes 50 sites on every plan, Plausible Starter covers one site, and Umami Pro allows up to 20 websites and 10 team members. GA4 keeps event data for up to 14 months, Umami Hobby keeps 6 months, and Clicky's free plan keeps 30 days of history.

Consider self-hosting

If data ownership matters most, Matomo On-Premise is free to download and run on your own servers, and Plausible and Umami publish their code as open source. Self-hosting removes subscription costs but adds server, update and security work, so compare that effort with a hosted plan.

Common questions

What is the best website analytics tool?
Plausible ranks first on our scores because it fits traffic, campaign and goal reports onto one cookieless dashboard from $9 a month. Google Analytics 4 is second and remains the stronger choice for advertisers who need attribution and Google Ads audiences.
What is the best privacy-friendly alternative to Google Analytics?
Plausible is the easiest switch for most sites. Matomo is the closest match in depth and can be self-hosted for free. Umami adds funnels and retention with a free plan, and Fathom suits people with many sites.
Is there a free website analytics tool?
Google Analytics 4 is free. Umami, Clicky, Simple Analytics and Mixpanel have free plans with limits, and Matomo On-Premise is free to download if you host it yourself.
Do cookieless analytics tools need a consent banner?
Plausible, Fathom, Simple Analytics and Umami state that they use no cookies and collect no personal data, so they say no cookie banner is needed for analytics. Your site may still need a banner for other tools, so check with your legal advisor.
What is the difference between web analytics and product analytics?
Web analytics tools such as Plausible and Fathom report on visits, sources and pages. Product analytics tools such as Mixpanel track events by user to measure funnels, retention and feature use inside an app. Umami and Matomo cover parts of both.
