SaaS Statistics 2026

This page collects figures on the SaaS market and on how companies buy and keep SaaS: total market size, spend per employee, the number of apps a company runs, price increases, and churn and renewal rates. Most figures describe 2025 and 2026, with one Gartner SaaS forecast from late 2024 kept as the latest public split of cloud spending by type. Sources are analyst forecasts (Gartner, IDC), SaaS spend data from management vendors (Zylo, Vertice, Torii, Flexera), Eurostat's official survey of EU enterprises, Microsoft's published price list, SEC filings from ServiceNow, Salesforce, Workday and Zoom, and benchmarks from Recurly and High Alpha. Each figure states its scope and year.

Quick answer

Gartner forecasts worldwide software spending of $1,464 billion in 2026, up 15.2%, and put SaaS alone at $299.1 billion in 2025. Companies spend about $9,450 per employee a year on SaaS (Zylo median $9,455, Vertice $9,450), manage around 305 paid SaaS apps (Zylo), and face steady price rises: 79% of IT leaders saw increases at renewal and Vertice's SaaS inflation index peaked at 16.4% in June 2026. Large vendors keep most revenue, with renewal or retention rates of 98% at ServiceNow and about 97% at Workday.

What the figures show

The market keeps growing at double-digit rates. Gartner's October 2026 forecast puts worldwide software spending at $1,464 billion in 2026 and $1,679 billion in 2027, within total IT spending of $6,391 billion. IDC expects public cloud spending to pass $1 trillion in 2026, with SaaS more than half of it, and Gartner's latest public SaaS split put end-user SaaS spending at $299.1 billion in 2025. Software is growing faster than devices and IT services, though far slower than data center hardware bought for AI.

Per company, the bill is now close to $9,500 per employee per year. Zylo's median of $9,455 and Vertice's Q3 2026 average of $9,450 come from different customer bases but agree closely. Zylo found total SaaS spend rose 8% while the number of apps stayed flat, which means the increase came from prices, upgrades and new AI tools rather than more products. Business units, not IT, control 81% of that spend, and expensed AI apps such as ChatGPT are the fastest growing line.

App counts depend on what you count. Zylo's customers manage about 305 paid SaaS apps; Torii, which also counts shadow apps found in browsers and sign-ups, finds 831 on average and 2,191 at enterprises, with each employee using about 40. Outside large enterprises, adoption is less complete: Eurostat found 52.74% of EU firms with 10 or more employees paid for cloud services in 2025, and fewer than a third of those used cloud ERP or CRM.

Prices and retention explain why SaaS revenue is so durable. 79% of IT leaders in Zylo's survey saw price increases at renewal, Vertice's inflation index peaked at 16.4% in June 2026, and Microsoft raised most Microsoft 365 commercial list prices by 5% to 33% from July 2026. Yet enterprise vendors keep nearly all contract value: ServiceNow reports a 98% renewal rate, Workday about 97% gross revenue retention and Salesforce about 8% attrition. Self-serve products churn faster, with Zoom's online customers at 2.9% of revenue per month. The main long-term risk is pricing structure rather than churn: Gartner says $234 billion of application spending is exposed to AI agents by 2030.

How we picked these figures

We chose figures that describe the size of the SaaS market and how organizations spend on, accumulate, pay more for and renew SaaS, and we read each one on the publisher's own page, press release or SEC filing. Several sources sell SaaS management or billing tools (Zylo, Vertice, Torii, Flexera, Recurly) and report data from their own customers, which skews toward mid-size and large organizations; we label them as vendor data and keep any single publisher near a fifth of the page. Gartner and IDC figures are forecasts, and their market definitions differ. Retention metrics from ServiceNow, Workday, Salesforce and Zoom use each company's own definition and are not directly comparable. Vertice publishes its inflation and per-employee figures on pages it updates monthly, so the figures quoted here may be replaced by newer readings. Eurostat covers EU enterprises with 10 or more employees. Microsoft prices are US list prices and vary by country, currency and agreement. Each quote is copied from the original publisher and fetched again by a script to confirm it still appears there. See the methodology.
