Kiro takes a more structured approach than the other editors here. Instead of jumping from a prompt to code, it turns the request into requirements, an architectural design and a sequence of tasks, checks the requirements for contradictions, then implements them with parallel agents locally or in the cloud. Property-based tests assert rules across all inputs, which helps catch edge cases that ordinary unit tests pass. A headless CLI can run in CI/CD. The Free tier includes 50 credits a month with open weight models and Claude Sonnet 4.5; Pro is $20 per user per month for 1,000 credits, with Pro+, Pro Max and Power tiers above it and add-on credits at $0.04. Teams can pool credits at $20 per seat. AWS now directs Amazon Q Developer IDE plugin users to Kiro, since those plugins lose support on April 30, 2027. The spec workflow is slower for quick fixes.
