Cloud Computing Statistics 2026

This page collects figures on how many businesses use cloud computing and what they buy, how much is spent on public cloud worldwide, how revenue and market share split between AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and Oracle, and how organizations manage cost, waste and multiple providers. Adoption figures come from official surveys by Eurostat (EU enterprises with 10 or more employees, 2025) and Statistics Canada (2023). Spending and share figures come from IDC, Gartner, Omdia and Synergy Research Group, and provider revenue comes from Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet and Oracle earnings releases and SEC filings for quarters ending in 2026. Cost and multi-cloud figures come from 2026 surveys by Flexera, the FinOps Foundation and Parallels.

Quick answer

Public cloud spending passes $1 trillion in 2026 (IDC), and cloud infrastructure services alone reached $168 billion in Q3 2026, up 55%, with Amazon at 26%, Microsoft at 19% and Google at 16% of that market (Synergy Research). Adoption is still uneven: 52.74% of EU enterprises paid for cloud in 2025, from 49.3% of small firms to 84.67% of large ones (Eurostat). Organizations estimate 29% of their IaaS and PaaS spend is wasted, the first rise in five years (Flexera).

What the figures show

Cloud is now the default way to buy business software, but not yet the default way to run a business. Eurostat found 52.74% of EU enterprises paid for cloud services in 2025, and Statistics Canada found 48% of Canadian businesses used cloud in 2023. The gap by size is wide: 84.67% of large EU firms buy cloud services against 49.3% of small ones. Almost all cloud buyers start with SaaS such as email and office software, while only about a quarter buy development platforms and fewer than a third run ERP or CRM in the cloud.

Spending is rising faster than adoption because existing users are moving heavier workloads, especially AI. IDC expects public cloud spending to pass $1 trillion in 2026, with PaaS growing more than 37%, and Gartner forecasts IaaS spending of $292 billion in 2026, up 31.3%. Synergy Research measured cloud infrastructure revenue at $168 billion in Q3 2026, up 55%, and says AI-specific services now make up about a third of the market.

The three largest providers still hold about two thirds of cloud infrastructure, but the order of growth has changed. AWS reported $46.0 billion of Q3 2026 sales, up 39%, and remains the largest provider, yet its share fell to 26% in Synergy's estimate as Microsoft (Azure revenue up 48%) and Google Cloud (revenue roughly doubled to $30.7 billion) grew faster. Oracle's cloud infrastructure revenue grew 121%. Contracted backlogs of $677 billion at Microsoft, $560.8 billion at Google Cloud and $664 billion at Oracle point to continued growth if that capacity is delivered.

Cost control has not kept pace. Flexera's 2026 survey found 85% of organizations name managing cloud spend as a top challenge and estimated waste on IaaS and PaaS rose to 29%, the first increase in five years. FinOps teams are spreading, and 98% of FinOps practitioners now manage AI spend. Most organizations also run more than one environment: 73% operate hybrid estates in Flexera's sample, and 94% of IT leaders surveyed by Parallels worry about vendor lock-in.

How we picked these figures

We chose figures that describe cloud adoption, spending, provider revenue and share, cost management and multi-cloud use, and read each one on the publisher's own page, press release or SEC filing. Adoption rates come from official business surveys: Eurostat covers EU enterprises with 10 or more employees and counts only paid cloud services, while Statistics Canada's latest published results describe 2023. IDC, Gartner and Omdia figures are forecasts or estimates with different market definitions, so totals are not comparable across firms. Market shares from Synergy and Omdia are research estimates for different quarters. Provider revenue comes from company filings, but each company defines its cloud segment differently, and Microsoft does not report Azure revenue in dollars. Flexera, the FinOps Foundation and Parallels sell cloud or FinOps related products or run practitioner communities, and their surveys reflect their respondents, which lean toward larger organizations. No single publisher accounts for more than about a fifth of the figures. Each quote is copied from the original publisher and fetched again by a script to confirm it still appears there.
