10 Best Dental Practice Management Software of 2026
By the TopToolAdvisor research desk · Updated November 6, 2026 · Next review December 21, 2026 · 10 products scored
Our pick in brief
CareStack is the most complete cloud system with a published price, and its location-based licenses suit growing and specialty practices. Open Dental is the value pick for offices willing to run a local server, and Ascend by Dentrix is the strongest choice for buyers who want Henry Schein One's cloud platform, with a $199 Starter package for new owners. Curve Dental and Archy bundle claims, imaging and texting into one bill, Oryx has clear tiers and a free first year for start-ups, and tab32 is the cheapest way into the cloud. Dentrix still fits practices that want local control, Denticon is built for DSOs, and MOGO is a budget cloud option.
Quick answer
CareStack is the best dental practice management software for established general and specialty practices in 2026, from $829 a month with licenses set by location and provider; Open Dental suits cost-conscious offices that can host their own server at $199 a month per location. tab32 is the cheapest cloud option at $125 a month in year one for up to 3 providers.
This list is for dentists and office managers choosing software to run scheduling, clinical charting, X-ray imaging, insurance claims and patient billing. We compared documented features and published prices for 10 dental practice management systems and scored each on features, ease of use and value. Prices are the cheapest paid plan in US dollars as shown on the vendor's own page on the date we checked; where a vendor sells by quote only, the price is marked as pending. Dental software is usually priced per location, sometimes with provider limits, so count your providers and offices before you compare.

Price
Essentials from $829 per month; Intelligence from $1,299 per month; custom plans by quote
Quoted from the CareStack pricing page on November 6, 2026:
Starting at $ 829 / month
CareStack ranks first because it puts the whole dental workflow in one cloud system and still publishes a starting price. The Essentials bundle covers multi-specialty scheduling, charting and treatment planning, FDA-cleared native imaging, real-time eligibility, claims with scrubbing and electronic attachments, ERAs with automated posting, payment plans with auto-debit and two-way texting. Intelligence adds AI clinical notes, voice perio charting and X-ray analysis and diagnosis by Overjet. CareStack sets licenses by locations and providers rather than users, so hiring front desk staff does not raise the software bill, and it does not charge practices for third-party integrations. Ortho, perio and oral surgery case management are built in, which helps specialty and multi-specialty offices. The trade-off is cost: $829 a month is well above Open Dental or tab32 for a small office, and implementation fees may apply when a migration is complex.
Strengths
- +Published starting prices for both bundles
- +Licenses are set by locations and providers, so adding users does not add license fees
- +Case management for ortho, perio and oral surgery is included
Drawbacks
- −The $829 entry price is high for a new solo practice
- −AI diagnostics require the $1,299 Intelligence plan
- −Implementation fees can apply for complex data migrations

Ascend Starter $199 per month for the first year for practices with fewer than 500 patients a year; Essentials, Pro and Accelerate by quote
Quoted from the Ascend by Dentrix pricing page on November 6, 2026:
For practices with fewer than 500 patients annually, Ascend Starter is $199 per month for the first year.
Ascend by Dentrix is Henry Schein One's cloud system, and it ranks third because it pairs a mature feature set with an easy browser interface. Charting uses Quick Exam, AI detection and Voice Notes for hands-free documentation, and Image Verify rates each X-ray in real time so staff can retake poor images before a claim is rejected. Eligibility Pro writes instant eligibility to coverage tables, and claims, ERAs and payment posting are automated. Online booking and digital forms are now native. Every package includes unlimited users, cloud data and 24/7 support. In October 2026 Henry Schein One launched Ascend Starter at $199 a month for the first year for practices with fewer than 500 patients a year, which includes the Ascend Pro platform and a startup consultant. Established practices must request a quote for Essentials, Pro or Accelerate, so most buyers cannot compare cost up front.
Strengths
- +Every package includes unlimited users and 24/7 support
- +AI image checks and voice dictation are built into the chart
- +Real-time dashboards for single or multi-location practices
Drawbacks
- −Only the Starter package has a published price
- −Starter pricing applies to practices with fewer than 500 patients a year and only for year one
- −Many marketing and IT services are separate Henry Schein One products
- Starter price
- $199 a month for the first year, under 500 patients a year

Price
$199 per month per location for the first 12 months, then $149 per month; eServices and cloud hosting extra
Quoted from the Open Dental pricing page on November 6, 2026:
Initial Rate: $199/month/location or office
Open Dental takes second place on value. Its fee page lists $199 a month per location for the first 12 months, covering every computer in the office for up to 3 providers, then a reduced rate of $149 a month. Extra full-time providers cost $20 a month each. The software includes a graphical tooth chart, discount plans, electronic prescriptions, digital forms and a query system that lets offices build their own reports, and it bridges to hundreds of other programs and more than 20 clearinghouses. The catch is that Open Dental is self-hosted by default. You supply the server, backups and IT time, or pay for Open Dental Cloud, which starts at $250 a month for 7 concurrent sessions, is US only and is in limited release. Patient-facing tools such as texting, Web Sched and the patient portal are sold as eServices, so the real monthly total is higher than the license fee.
Strengths
- +Lowest published license price among the established systems here
- +Fee covers all computers in a location for up to 3 providers
- +Very open to integrations and custom queries
Drawbacks
- −Self-hosted by default, so the practice manages its own server or hosting
- −Texting, online booking and similar tools are paid eServices on top of the license
- −Open Dental Cloud is US only and in limited release
- Initial rate
- $199 a month per location for 12 months
- Reduced rate
- $149 a month per location after 12 months
- Extra providers
- $20 a month each above 3 per location
- Cloud hosting
- From $250 a month on top of support fees

Price
$899 per month per location; new practices may qualify for $400 per month until 400 patients or 1 year
Quoted from the Archy pricing page on November 6, 2026:
Run your practice on Archy for $899/month
Archy earns its place with the simplest pricing on this list: $899 a month per location with unlimited users, unlimited providers, unlimited claim submissions, unlimited eligibility checks and unlimited texting. Practices that qualify as new can start at $400 a month until they reach 400 patients or one year. The platform covers scheduling with an ASAP list and appointment finder, online forms, kiosk mode, lab case tracking, charting, treatment planning, integrated imaging, a patient portal, online reviews, team chat, time tracking and a mobile app. More advanced tools are sold as suites: the Clinical Suite adds an AI scribe, AI voice perio and imaging AI powered by Pearl, the Front Office Suite adds payment posting automation and insurance verification powered by Vyne, and the Marketing Suite adds a hosted website. For a group with several providers the flat fee is good value; for a solo dentist it costs more than most rivals here.
Strengths
- +One flat price per location with unlimited users and providers
- +Claims, eligibility checks and texting are unlimited
- +Special first-year pricing for new practices
Drawbacks
- −$899 a month is high for a single-provider office
- −AI clinical tools, revenue automation and websites are separate suites
- −E-prescribing is an add-on
- Platform price
- $899 a month per location
- New practice price

We could not confirm a US price yet. Check the Curve Dental pricing page.
Curve Dental places fourth because it bundles tools that other systems sell separately. Its pricing page lists unlimited eClaims, ERA and eligibility, which removes the need for a third-party clearinghouse, plus native cloud imaging, Curve GRO patient engagement with automated reminders and a campaign builder, and business analytics with huddle dashboards. Front office scheduling, billing and payment processing sit alongside restorative and perio charting and patient education. Data protection covers continuous backup, intrusion detection and disaster recovery, so there is no server to maintain. Support runs 24/7/365 by phone and email, and start-ups can ask for special implementation and license pricing. The weakness is price transparency: Curve does not publish a figure, so practices must request a quote and add up what they would otherwise pay for imaging, reminders and a clearinghouse to judge value.
Strengths
- +Built-in eClaims, imaging and reminders replace several add-on tools
- +Support by phone and email 24/7/365
- +Special implementation and license pricing for start-ups
Drawbacks
- −Prices are by personalized quote only
- −No published plan tiers to compare
- −Fully cloud based, so offices need reliable internet

Oryx Pro $650 per month for up to 2 providers; Automate $899; Oryx AI $1,399; start-up offer $0 for up to 12 months
Quoted from the Oryx pricing page on November 6, 2026:
Oryx Pro Best for established practices ready to streamline operations $650 /mo
Oryx publishes three tiers and a start-up offer, which makes it easy to budget. Oryx Pro costs $650 a month for up to 2 providers and includes online forms, two-way texting, a patient portal, online scheduling, instant eligibility and claims, integrated payments, dashboards, native imaging, risk assessments and guided clinical charting. Automate, at $899, adds morning huddle and KPI dashboards, automated collection sequences, auto ERA posting, claims auto attachment and marketing campaigns. Oryx AI, at $1,399, adds AI voice perio charting, AI exam charting and AI imaging from Pearl or Overjet. Practices launching from scratch can pay $0 a month until they reach 200 patients or 12 months. Every plan includes onboarding, data and image conversion and a success partner. Costs rise with provider count, at $100 a month per extra provider, and phone support runs Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm CT.

- +Start-up offer of $0 a month until 200 patients or 12 months

$125 per month in year 1 for up to 3 providers, $225 per month from year 2; claims $0.20 each; 14-day free trial
Quoted from the tab32 pricing page on November 6, 2026:
starting at $125/mo. No servers. No contracts.
tab32 has the lowest published entry price here. The Alpine Start-Up Package costs $125 a month in year one for up to 3 providers and $225 a month from year two, the same as the Established Practice package for up to 5 providers. Both include scheduling with an ASAP list and waitlist, charting with an odontogram, perio charting and treatment plans, digital imaging, Stripe payments, text-to-pay and reports, all on a HIPAA-compliant cloud with no contracts and a 14-day free trial. Claims cost $0.20 each and attachments $0.50 per claim, and AutoRemind reminders are included in year one, then $69 a month. AI voice scribes, voice perio and insurance verification are pay per use. The list of tools marked coming soon, including online booking, ePrescribe and AI imaging, is the main gap, and usage fees mean the real bill is higher than the base price.

Denticon is Planet DDS's cloud practice management system, built for DSOs and groups that need visibility across many offices. Planet DDS says more than 13,000 practices use its products. Front office tools include an advanced scheduler, SmartAssist for check-in to check-out tasks, Quick Fill for open slots, automated appointment messaging, two-way texting and online booking with digital forms. Revenue cycle tools cover interactive and automatic eligibility, batch claims and automatic 835 posting. Clinically, Denticon integrates Apteryx imaging with AI X-ray analysis, AI voice perio and restorative charting and an ortho module for multi-specialty teams. DentalOS AI Agents can make outbound calls to confirm appointments and reach overdue patients. Native analytics let staff run reports without coding. The drawbacks are no published pricing and a design that favors groups, so a single office may find it heavier than it needs.
Strengths
- +Built for multi-location groups with centralized control
- +Integrated Apteryx imaging with AI X-ray analysis

Dentrix is the most familiar name in dental software, and Henry Schein One says more than 35,000 practices rely on it. It covers insurance eligibility and claims, patient billing and payments, Dentrix Imaging with AI-verified X-ray capture and auto-coding, online booking, reminders, reputation management, digital forms and real-time analytics, with a large API Exchange of third-party vendors. Training is offered on-site, online and at your own pace, and many hires have used Dentrix before. It ranks below the cloud systems because of how it runs. Henry Schein One's own comparison says Dentrix is installed locally, cannot be accessed remotely without a separate setup and needs regular updates and IT support for backups. Pricing is by quote, and the vendor steers practices that want the cloud toward Ascend.
Strengths
- +Used by 35,000+ practices, so staff often already know it
- +On-site, online and self-paced training options
- +Wide ecosystem of integrations through the API Exchange

Price
From $250 per month
Quoted from the MOGO pricing page on November 6, 2026:
Optimize your dental practice efficiency for as little as $250 per month.
MOGO is a long-running dental software company that now sells a cloud system hosted on Microsoft Azure from as little as $250 a month, with every feature in one package. It covers front desk tools such as online patient forms, online appointment requests, eReminders and patient eSignature, operatory tools including restorative and periodontal charting, a digital imaging suite, treatment planning and ePrescription, and administrative tools such as eClaims, insurance eligibility, accounts receivable, business reports, a time clock and audit rights. Multi-location offices get centralized reporting across sites. MOGO also offers a free data evaluation that lists exactly what will convert. It ranks last because the feature set is more traditional than the newer cloud platforms, with no AI charting, the patient portal is still listed as coming soon, and the site does not explain what moves the price above the $250 starting point.
Strengths
- +Low published starting price
- +Every feature included in one package
- +Hosted on Microsoft Azure with no local server
Drawbacks
- −Patient portal is listed as coming soon
- −Fewer AI and automation tools than newer cloud systems
- −Website gives little detail on what changes the price above $250

What to check before you buy
Decide between cloud and a local server
Dentrix and Open Dental run on a server in your office by default, which gives you direct control but leaves backups, updates and remote access to you or your IT provider. CareStack, Ascend, Curve, Archy, Oryx, tab32, Denticon and MOGO are cloud systems you open in a browser. Open Dental Cloud exists but is US only, in limited release and costs extra.
Count providers and locations, not just users
Most dental systems price per location, and many cap providers. Open Dental covers up to 3 providers per location and adds $20 per extra provider, Oryx includes 2 providers and adds $100 each, and tab32 covers 3 providers on its start-up package. Archy and CareStack do not charge per user, which helps offices with large front desk teams.
Check what claims and eligibility really cost
Clearinghouse fees can add a lot to the monthly bill. Curve includes unlimited eClaims, ERA and eligibility, and Archy includes unlimited claims and eligibility checks. tab32 charges $0.20 per claim and $0.50 per claim attachment, and Open Dental connects to 20+ outside clearinghouses that bill separately.
Look closely at imaging and AI charting
Native imaging saves a separate imaging license. CareStack, Curve, Archy, Oryx and tab32 include imaging, and Denticon integrates Apteryx. AI tools such as voice perio charting, AI notes and X-ray analysis usually sit on a higher plan: CareStack Intelligence, Oryx AI, the Archy Clinical Suite and pay-per-use services on tab32.
Ask about start-up pricing
Several vendors discount the first year for new practices. Oryx charges $0 a month until 200 patients or 12 months, Archy offers $400 a month until 400 patients or one year, Ascend Starter costs $199 a month for the first year under 500 patients, and tab32 charges $125 a month in year one. Check the price you will pay in year two before you sign.
Common questions
- What is the best dental practice management software?
- CareStack is our top pick for established practices because it combines scheduling, charting, native imaging, claims and patient communication in one cloud system from $829 a month. Open Dental is the best value at $199 a month per location for practices that host their own server, and Ascend by Dentrix is the strongest choice from Henry Schein One.
- What is the cheapest dental practice management software?
- Among the systems we compared, tab32 has the lowest published price at $125 a month in year one for up to 3 providers, rising to $225 from year two. Open Dental costs $199 a month per location for the first 12 months, then $149, and Oryx offers $0 a month to new practices until 200 patients or 12 months.
- Is cloud dental software better than a local server system?
- Cloud systems such as CareStack, Ascend and Curve remove the need for an office server and allow access from any device with internet. Local systems such as Dentrix and Open Dental give the practice direct control of its data but need IT support for backups and updates, and Dentrix has no native remote access.
- What is the difference between Dentrix and Ascend by Dentrix?
- Both come from Henry Schein One. Dentrix is installed locally on office computers, while Ascend is cloud based and opened in a browser. Henry Schein One positions Dentrix for solo and small group practices that want local control and Ascend for all practice types, including multi-location groups and DSOs.
- Which dental software is best for a new practice?
- Oryx offers $0 a month until 200 patients or 12 months, Ascend Starter costs $199 a month for the first year for practices with fewer than 500 patients a year, and tab32 costs $125 a month in year one. Archy offers $400 a month to eligible new practices until 400 patients or one year.
