By the TopToolAdvisor research desk · Updated November 7, 2026 · Next review December 22, 2026 · 10 products scored

Our pickChatbaseBusinesses that want a polished agent trained on their own content with a path to helpdesk and CRM integrations.8.6

Our pick in brief

Chatbase is the best default because it takes files, websites, Notion pages and support tickets, applies changes within seconds and offers a wide choice of models from $32 a month billed yearly. Wonderchat gives the most on a free plan and bundles a help desk, SiteGPT is the purest website-trained bot with daily sitemap scans, and Chatling is the lowest-cost paid option with weekly auto-sync at $21 a month billed annually. DocsBot is the specialist for product documentation, Dante AI covers chat and voice from one knowledge base, and CustomGPT.ai suits large content libraries with compliance needs. Tidio Lyro and Intercom Fin fit teams that want the bot inside a live chat or help desk, and Botpress is for teams that want to program the logic themselves.

Quick answer

Chatbase is the best AI chatbot builder for businesses that want a bot trained on their own website and docs in 2026; Wonderchat suits small teams that want a free plan with a help desk included; Chatling is the cheapest paid option at $21 per month billed annually.

This list is for businesses that want a chatbot that answers from their own website, help docs and files rather than from general web knowledge. We compared documented features and published prices for 10 chatbot builders and scored each on features, ease of use and value, with extra attention to the sources each tool can learn from and how it keeps that knowledge in sync. Prices are the cheapest paid plan in US dollars as shown on each vendor's pricing page on the date we checked. Usage units differ: some tools count messages or credits, others count conversations, queries or outcomes, so compare the allowance as well as the price.

Hobby from $32 per month billed yearly ($40 billed monthly), with 700 message credits

Quoted from the Chatbase pricing page on November 7, 2026: Hobby $32 $40 $40 $40 /month billed yearly

Chatbase is the most complete option for a business that wants a chatbot grounded in its own website and documents without writing code. You add files, a website, text snippets, Q&A pairs, Notion pages or past support tickets on one Data Sources page, and Chatbase says each change takes effect within seconds, so there is no retrain step to remember. Basic and higher plans re-read websites, Notion and tickets every week. Every paid plan can use advanced models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and others, and the agent can go live on web chat, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and Slack. The trade-offs are price structure and limits. There is no free plan, Hobby covers one agent with 700 message credits and 40 MB of training content, and integrations with Zendesk, Salesforce, Intercom and HubSpot only start on the $120 Basic plan. Removing the Chatbase branding is a $99 monthly add-on.

    Strengths

    • +Sources train in seconds, so edits to your docs show up almost immediately
    • +Wide model choice on every paid plan
    • +SOC 2 Type II, GDPR and HIPAA listed on the security section of the pricing page

    Drawbacks

    • −No permanent free plan, only a 7-day trial
    • −Helpdesk integrations such as Zendesk, Intercom and HubSpot start on the $120 Basic plan

Free plan with 50 AI replies a month; Starter from $32.50 per month billed yearly

Quoted from the Wonderchat pricing page on November 7, 2026: Starter For a first agent on your site $ 32.50 /month billed yearly, 2 months free

Wonderchat is a good fit for a small business that wants to try a bot on its own website before paying anything. The free plan stores 100 webpages per agent, gives 50 AI replies a month and already includes an AI help desk, shared inbox and live chat handover, so a person can step in when the bot cannot answer. Starter at $32.50 a month billed yearly raises that to 200 webpages, 500 AI replies and unlimited team seats, and adds chat workflows and basic analytics. Wonderchat retrains on your webpages automatically each month on Starter and Basic and each week on Scale, while the free plan uses manual recrawls, and it can also learn from past tickets. Channels cover the website widget, email, Messenger, Instagram, Discord and Telegram, and the vendor lists support for over 80 languages. Limits appear around integrations and security: Zendesk and Freshdesk ticket sync and API access start on Basic at $125, while SSO, audit logs and the SOC 2 report sit on Enterprise.

    Strengths

    • +Permanent free plan with 100 webpages per agent
    • +Unlimited team seats from the Starter plan
    • +Can be trained on past tickets and customer conversations

    Drawbacks

    • −Free plan is limited to 50 AI replies a month

    SiteGPT

A website chatbot builder that trains on a URL, sitemap, YouTube videos or uploaded files and keeps in sync with your sitemap.

    Price

Starter $39 per month billed yearly ($468 a year) or $59 billed monthly

Quoted from the SiteGPT pricing page on November 7, 2026: Starter plan pricing: $59/month billed monthly, or $468/year billed yearly (equivalent to $39/month).

SiteGPT is the most website-centred builder on this list. You enter a URL or a sitemap link and it trains on everything there, and you can add YouTube videos, uploaded CSV, PDF, DOCX, PPTX or Markdown files, or connected sources such as Notion, Google Drive, Dropbox and GitHub. Higher plans scan your sitemap daily to catch new or removed pages, and automatic syncing can run monthly, weekly or daily, which matters if your docs change every release. SiteGPT says your site can be in any language and the bot can answer in a different one. Pricing is clear: Starter is $39 a month billed yearly for one chatbot, up to 4,000 GPT-4.1-mini messages and 1,000 pages, where a page is 2,500 cleaned characters. The catches are that there is no free plan, the trial needs a card, Starter refreshes data manually and allows one member, and integrations with Slack, Messenger and help desks begin on Growth.

    Strengths

    • +Built around website content, with sitemap and URL training up front
    • +Automatic syncing on a monthly, weekly or daily basis
    • +HIPAA eligibility with a BAA listed on a higher plan

    Drawbacks

    • −No free plan, and the 7-day trial needs a credit card
    • −Starter includes one chatbot, one member and manual refresh only
    • −Extra message packs cost $59 per month for 5,000 messages

    Chatling

A low-cost AI chatbot builder with a visual flow builder, a knowledge base and weekly auto-sync from the first paid plan.

    Price

Free plan with 200 AI credits; Starter $21 per month billed $250 annually or $25 monthly

Quoted from the Chatling pricing page on November 7, 2026: $21 /month billed $250 annually

Chatling is the budget choice that does not strip out the features that matter for a docs bot. The free plan gives one agent, 200 AI credits and 500,000 characters of knowledge, which is enough to test a bot on a small site. Starter costs $21 a month billed annually or $25 monthly and raises the limits to 1,750 AI credits, two agents, two seats and 10 million knowledge base characters, and it adds weekly auto-sync of your sources, four actions and five workflows per agent, API access and full widget customization. Starter also unlocks flagship models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral and others. Chatling says the AI responds in over 80 languages and that it does not cap the number of users who chat with your bot. The trade-off is that credits are consumed at different rates depending on the model, so monthly capacity depends on your settings, and the integration list is shorter than on Chatbase or Botpress.

    Strengths

    • +Lowest paid entry price on this list
    • +Free plan with 500,000 knowledge base characters
    • +No limit on how many visitors can use the chatbot

    Drawbacks

    • −Free plan allows one agent and one seat
    • −Credit usage varies by model, so message counts are less predictable
    • −Fewer helpdesk integrations than the larger platforms
    Free plan
Yes, 200 AI credits and 500,000 knowledge base characters

    Price

Free plan for personal use; Personal from $49 per month, with two months free on annual plans

Quoted from the DocsBot pricing page on November 7, 2026: Personal plan For power users and small businesses just getting started. $49 /month

DocsBot is built for teams whose knowledge sits in product documentation. It accepts more than 28 source types, including websites, PDFs, Word files, Markdown, HTML, RSS feeds and spreadsheets, and DocsBot describes an agentic RAG pipeline that cleans, chunks, retrieves and reranks your content before answering. It says the bot can reply in over 100 languages even when your docs are only in English, which helps support teams with global customers. The free plan suits personal tests with 50 source pages. The $49 Personal plan is where it gets useful for a business: 5,000 source pages, 5,000 monthly AI credits, three actions per bot, lead forms, Zapier, Slack, Messenger, WhatsApp and Telegram. Standard at $149 adds three bots, five users, escalation tickets and question analytics. The weak spots are that Personal allows only one user, and SOC 2 Type II, GDPR compliance and unbranded widgets are listed on the $499 Business plan.

    Strengths

    • +Source page limits are generous, 5,000 pages on the $49 plan
    • +Prices shown in USD on the page with a currency switcher
    • +14-day money-back guarantee

    Drawbacks

    • −Personal plan includes one bot and one team user
    • −SOC 2 Type II and GDPR compliance are listed on the $499 Business plan
    • −Unbranded widgets also require Business

Quoted from the Dante AI pricing page on November 7, 2026: Starter $40 /month or $33.33/month billed yearly ($400 a year)

Dante AI pitches a single knowledge base that answers on your website by text and voice, on the phone and in your inbox. You teach it from your website, Google Drive and Notion, and paid plans re-sync those sources on a schedule: weekly on Starter, every three days on Advanced and daily on Pro. The free plan has no card requirement and covers one agent with 100 messages a month and 150,000 characters of knowledge, enough to try it on a small site. Starter costs $33.33 a month billed yearly or $40 monthly and lifts the limits to 2,000 messages and 25 million characters, with every AI model, voice beyond the free 10 minutes and 9,000+ apps through Zapier. The gaps show for sales-minded teams: lead capture, a human takeover inbox, removal of the Dante mark and your own phone number all start on Advanced at $100 a month billed yearly, and API access needs Pro.

    Strengths

    • +Free plan with no card needed
    • +Every AI model available from the Starter plan
    • +Covers web chat and voice from one knowledge base

    Drawbacks

    • −Free plan allows 100 messages a month and 150,000 characters

    Price

Standard $99 per month billed monthly ($89 billed annually); 7-day free trial

Quoted from the CustomGPT.ai pricing page on November 7, 2026: Every CustomGPT.ai plan starts with a 7-day free trial, from Standard at $99 a month to Premium at $499 a month and custom Enterprise plans.

CustomGPT.ai is built for organizations with a lot of content to index. The $99 Standard plan already covers 10 agents, 5,000 documents per agent and 60 million words of storage, and it can train on business websites, PDFs, Office files and even YouTube videos, audio files and podcasts. Its integration table lists direct sitemaps, WordPress, Google Drive, Notion, Confluence, Zendesk and HubSpot knowledge bases, Zapier and Shopify. CustomGPT.ai lists support for 90+ languages and SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR compliance on every plan, which shortens a security review. RAG API access is also included from Standard. The value score reflects the limits on the entry plan: Standard covers only 1,000 queries a month, and automatic sync of website content and removal of the CustomGPT.ai branding are Premium features at $499 a month. There is a 7-day free trial but no free plan, and paying yearly saves 10%.

    Strengths

    • +Very large knowledge capacity, 60 million words of storage on Standard
    • +SOC 2 Type 2 listed on the entry plan
    • +RAG API access included from Standard

    Price

Free Tidio plan; Lyro AI Agent standalone from $32.50 per month billed annually, from 50 Lyro conversations

Quoted from the Tidio Lyro pricing page on November 7, 2026: Available as a stand-alone product Starts at $ 32.50 /mo. From 50 Lyro AI conversations

Tidio Lyro is the simplest route for a small business that already wants live chat on its website and would like an AI agent answering first. Lyro gives knowledge-based responses from your content, lets you set its communication style and hands chats to your team in the same Tidio inbox. Tidio says its customers average a 75% resolution rate with Lyro. You can buy Lyro on its own from $32.50 a month billed annually, starting at 50 Lyro AI conversations, or combine it with Tidio's live chat, ticketing and Flows plans; the Starter plan is $24.17 a month billed annually but includes only 50 one-off Lyro conversations. For this list's use case, Lyro gives less control than a dedicated builder: you get fewer source and model options than Chatbase or DocsBot, conversation quotas are small at entry level, and pay-per-resolution billing with a guaranteed 50% resolution rate is reserved for the sales-led Premium tier.

    Strengths

    • +Tidio reports customers average a 75% resolution rate with Lyro
    • +Bot and live chat share one widget and inbox
    • +7-day free trial

    Drawbacks

    • −Entry pricing covers only 50 Lyro AI conversations

    Price

Intercom Essential from $19 per seat per month billed annually, plus $0.99 per Fin outcome

Quoted from the Intercom Fin pricing page on November 7, 2026: $29 $19 per seat/mo New customers save 35%

Intercom Fin is the strongest support-desk option, though it is priced for teams with real ticket volume rather than a small site bot. Fin learns your support content, answers across channels and transfers conversations to agents in the inbox, and Intercom says it can be set up in under an hour. You can run it on Intercom's own help desk, where Essential seats are $19 per month billed annually for new customers and include Messenger live chat, a shared inbox and a public help center, or add Fin to an existing help desk such as Salesforce, HubSpot or Freshdesk. Either way, Fin bills $0.99 per outcome, so the cost tracks how much work it does. That model is fair for a busy queue but unpredictable for a site that just wants answers from its docs, and the extra platform, from workflow builders to SLAs on higher plans, is more than many small businesses need.

    Strengths

    • +Intercom says Fin can be set up in under an hour
    • +Pay only for outcomes on top of seats
    • +14-day cardless free trial

    Drawbacks

    • −Costs grow with volume at $0.99 per outcome
    • −Seat pricing applies when you use the Intercom help desk
    • −More platform than a small website bot needs

    Price

Free plan with 100 conversations; Plus $150 per month billed annually with 250 conversations

Quoted from the Botpress pricing page on November 7, 2026: Plus $150/mo billed annually 250 conversations/mo included

Botpress is the most flexible platform here, but it asks more of the person building the bot. Its knowledge bases accept websites, documents, tables and files sent through its API. You can enter a root domain and let Botpress discover the pages under it, or add specific pages, then schedule re-crawls such as daily so the bot keeps up with your site. Documents in PDF, HTML, TXT, Word and Markdown can be up to 50 MB each. Around that, the Studio offers autonomous nodes, workflows, variables and code, and integrations with Intercom, Zendesk, HubSpot and Salesforce. The free plan includes 3 AI agents, 3 seats and 100 conversations. The next step is a big one: Plus costs $150 a month billed annually for 250 conversations, with packs of 100 more at $65, and Botpress covers $0.10 of AI usage per conversation. For a business that only wants a bot answering from its docs, that is more cost and setup than the no-code tools above.

    Strengths

    • +Free plan with 3 AI agents and 3 seats
    • +Plans include AI usage, with $0.10 of LLM cost covered per conversation
    • +Deep control through tables, variables and custom code

    Drawbacks

    • −Steeper learning curve than no-code builders
    • −First paid plan costs $150 per month billed annually
    • −Free plan is capped at 100 conversations with no top-ups

What to check before you buy

List your sources before you compare tools

Write down where your answers live today: public web pages, a docs site, PDFs, Notion, Google Drive, Confluence or past tickets. Chatbase and Chatling take websites and files on every plan, SiteGPT and Botpress can discover pages from a URL or sitemap, CustomGPT.ai adds YouTube, audio and Confluence, and Chatbase and Wonderchat can learn from past tickets.

Check how the bot stays current

A bot trained once goes stale after your next release. Look for scheduled resync: Chatbase re-reads sources weekly from Basic, Chatling syncs weekly from Starter, Dante AI resyncs weekly to daily depending on plan, SiteGPT offers monthly to daily syncing plus daily sitemap scans on higher plans, and Botpress lets you schedule re-crawls such as daily.

Compare the usage allowance, not only the price

Entry plans differ a lot in what they include. Chatbase Hobby has 700 message credits, SiteGPT Starter up to 4,000 messages, Dante AI Starter 2,000 messages, CustomGPT.ai Standard 1,000 queries, Botpress Plus 250 conversations, and Intercom Fin bills $0.99 per outcome. Estimate your monthly chat volume and price the plan that covers it.

Plan for handoff and integrations

If people need to take over chats, check where that happens. Wonderchat and Tidio include a shared inbox, Intercom Fin hands off inside the Intercom inbox or your current help desk, and Chatbase, DocsBot and Botpress connect to Zendesk, Intercom and similar tools, often only on mid-tier plans.

Check branding and security on the plan you will buy

Branding removal and compliance documents often sit above the entry tier. Chatbase sells branding removal as a $99 monthly add-on, CustomGPT.ai removes branding on Premium, DocsBot lists SOC 2 Type II on Business, and Wonderchat lists the SOC 2 report on Enterprise. CustomGPT.ai lists SOC 2 Type 2 on its $99 Standard plan.

Common questions

What is an AI chatbot builder?
It is a tool that lets you create a chatbot that answers from your own content, such as web pages, help articles and uploaded files, and then place it on your website or messaging channels. Most builders on this list need no code: you add sources, adjust instructions and paste an embed snippet.
Can I train a chatbot on my website for free?
Yes, with limits. Wonderchat's free plan stores 100 webpages per agent with 50 AI replies a month, Chatling's free plan includes 200 AI credits and 500,000 knowledge base characters, Dante AI's free plan covers 100 messages a month, and DocsBot and Botpress also have free plans. Chatbase, SiteGPT and CustomGPT.ai offer 7-day trials instead.
How much does an AI chatbot builder cost?
Paid entry plans on this list range from $21 a month billed annually for Chatling to $150 a month billed annually for Botpress Plus. Chatbase starts at $32, Wonderchat at $32.50, SiteGPT at $39, DocsBot at $49 and CustomGPT.ai at $99 a month. Intercom Fin charges $0.99 per outcome on top of help desk seats.
Will the chatbot update when my website changes?
Only if the tool resyncs. Chatbase, Chatling, Dante AI, SiteGPT, Wonderchat and Botpress all offer scheduled resync or re-crawling, but the frequency depends on the plan, and some entry plans only allow manual refresh. Check the sync schedule on the plan you plan to buy.
Which chatbot builder supports the most languages?
DocsBot says it supports over 100 languages and can answer in them even when the docs are English-only. CustomGPT.ai lists 90+ languages, and Wonderchat and Chatling each say they support over 80.
